abstract

in this paper, based on the background of cost-oriented assembly line balancing problems, a novel mathematical model for scheduling and balancing the assembly line is offered that with the combination of task sequence-dependent setup time, parallel stations and resource constraint, minimizes the operational and investment costs of assembly system. due to the complexity of the problem, the equations have been proposed to reduce the number of variables of the model, and to achieve the optimal solution in reasonable time using exact algorithms. to clarify and explain the features of the model a numerical example have been used. also the solutions obtained from model in several examples, have been analyzed using different indexes, and results indicative of appropriate performance of the model

Multi-objective scheduling and assembly line balancing with resource constraint and cost uncertainty: A “box” set robust optimization

Assembly lines are flow-oriented production systems that are of great importance in the industrial production of standard, high-volume products and even more recently, they have become commonplace in producing low-volume custom products. The main goal of designers of these lines is to increase the efficiency of the system and therefore, the assembly line balancing to achieve an optimal system i...

A cost-oriented model for multi-manned assembly line balancing problem

In many real world assembly line systems which the work-piece is of large size more than one worker work on the same work-piece in each station. This type of assembly line is called multi-manned assembly line (MAL). In the classical multi-manned assembly line balancing problem (MALBP) the objective is to minimize the manpower needed to manufacture one product unit. Apart from the manpower, othe...

Methodology for Cost Oriented Assembly Line Balancing Problems

Assembly lines are special flow-lines production systems which are typical in the industrial production of high quantity standardized commodities. Assembly line balancing is based on evenly distribution of operations between workstations so that each idle time of the machines was minimal. It is assumed that operation times on the machines and the precedence relationship existing between the ope...

Mixed-Model Assembly Line Balancing with Considering Reliability

This paper presents a multi-objective simulated annealing algorithm for the mixed-model assembly line balancing with stochastic processing times. Since, the stochastic task times may have effects on the bottlenecks of a system, maximizing the weighted line efficiency (equivalent to the minimizing the number of station), minimizing the weighted smoothness index and maximizing the system reliabil...

Assembly line balancing to minimize balancing loss and system loss

Assembly Line production is one of the widely used basic principles in production system. The problem of Assembly Line Balancing deals with the distribution of activities among the workstations so that there will be maximum utilization of human resources and facilities without disturbing the work sequence. Research works reported in the literature mainly deals with minimization of idle time i.e...
